Major Roads To Be |
Closed For Improvements
Cobb County Department of Transportation
and Marietta will close sections of two major roads in west Cobb from
June 4 through Aug. 15 for improvements.
All traffic heading east on Stilesboro Road will be routed north along
Pine Mountain Road, south on Highway 41 and south to Kennesaw Due West
Road and vice versa.
The Stilesboro Road project is part of a $6.3
million county-funded project to provide improvements between Mars Hill
Road and Barrett Parkway; as well as to increase safety by installing
three traffic lights at Mack Dobbs Road, Pine Mountain Road and Acworth
Due West Road.
In addition, the county's DOT will realign Old Stilesboro
Road to provide a wider lane to accomodate bicycles.
Marietta is replacing the old bridge at Noses Creek off Burnt Hickory
Road. Portions of Burnt Hickory Road will be closed between
Ridgeway/Barrett Parkway and Polk Street.
Traffic heading east on Burnt
Hickory will be re-routed south on Ridgeway and onto Dallas Highway, and
vice versa. Although not a road widening project, this will provide
sufficient shoulder width to provide sidewalks and bicycle lanes in the
Both road improvement projects are funded by the Transportation
Improvements Program's 1 percent sales tax passed in 1994.
"We've tried to schedule road closings on these roads while Cobb County
and Marietta schools are on their summer break," Cobb County DOT
Engineer Dave Garrett said. Detour signs on the closed routes are posted
to help area commuters.
